Nanny Gets 30 Years to Life in Hit-Run Deaths
A nanny convicted of murder in the hit-and-run deaths of a brother and sister was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison Friday, officials said.
Jimena Barreto, 46, of Walnut Creek was convicted last month of driving her Mercedes-Benz onto a Danville sidewalk Oct. 26, 2003, killing Alana Pack, 7, and her brother, Troy, 10.
Barreto, who begged on her knees for forgiveness Friday, received just under the maximum sentence for two counts of second-degree murder, said her attorney, Craig Wormley.
The two sentences of 15 years to life, one for each child, will run consecutively.
Wormley said he plans to appeal.
