Harsh realities of the name game

The biggest surprise to me regarding Richard Zacks’ essay “A Writer Gets Antithetical About the Alphabetical” (Book Review, June 19) is that it took Zacks until publication of his first book (and its location in the bookstore) to realize that Zs, well, come last. Studies have shown that people in the first half of the alphabet achieve greater success than the second half.

In revenge, as a teacher I call students in reverse alphabetical order. And, Mr. Zacks, if our two tomes are ever in the same store, mine will come after yours.
