U.S. chain-store sales rose in the fourth week of June, as the summer heat helped the sale of seasonal goods, a report said.

Sales at major retailers rose 4.2% on a year-over-year basis for the week ended Saturday. Sales in June to date were flat compared with the same period in May, said Redbook Research, an independent company.

The Redbook data are compiled from a sampling of same-store sales at general merchandise retailers representing about 9,000 stores.
