30-Year Mortgage Rates Rise for Third Week

Rates on 30-year mortgages climbed for a third straight week, pushing the level to the highest point this year.

Freddie Mac’s weekly survey showed that rates on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 5.79% for the week ended Tuesday, up from 5.69% last week.

Rates on 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages, a popular refinancing option, rose to 5.33% this week, up from 5.22% last week. Rates on one-year adjustable-rate mortgages edged down slightly to 4.14%, compared with 4.16% last week. Five-year hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 5.17%, up from 5.05%.

The nationwide averages for mortgage rates do not include add-on fees known as points. The 30-year and five-year mortgages carried a fee of 0.7 point. The 15-year mortgage had a 0.6-point fee and the one-year ARM carried a fee of 0.8 point.
