They’re Hoping to Raise a Toast to Host

Outside Gulfstream Park, Host hasn’t exactly been a win machine for John Kimmel, who trains the 5-year-old Tabasco Cat horse for a partnership. The chestnut has two victories in 16 starts.

On the Gulfstream Park turf course, Host has been a powerhouse.

He has won all three there, including an 11-1 upset in the Mac Diarmida Handicap on Jan. 30.

Host will try to remain perfect when he takes on 10 others in today’s $250,000 Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Handicap, a Grade I at 1 3/8 miles.

The 119-pound highweight in the field is Prince Arch. A 4-year-old son of Arch owned by Ray Cottrell Sr. and trained by Ken McPeek, Prince Arch will be making his first start since he won the Grade III Saranac on Sept. 6 at Saratoga. Brice Blanc will ride the colt.

Race of the day: Revealed, an impressive winner in her turf debut Feb. 10, will seek her third win in four starts for owner-breeders Marty and Pam Wygod and trainer John Shirreffs in today’s $100,000 La Habra Stakes at Santa Anita.

Scheduled for about 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill course, the La Habra drew 10 other 3-year-old fillies, including Royal Wave, Shining Energy, Coastal Strike and Royal Copenhagen.

One for the road: Flint Ridge scored nicely in her first after a claim and faces tougher competition in today’s sixth at Aqueduct.

The 3-year-old Quake Ridge filly, who was claimed for $50,000 by trainer Frank Laboccetta Jr. for owner Robert Amendola on Jan. 17, will be ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan in the $43,000 optional claimer at six furlongs. Perfectly Quiet, who finished second, beaten 4 1/2 lengths by Flint Ridge on Feb. 16, returned to win her next start in a romp.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Quinton Strikes in the first, Kate’s Hope, Gold Format and Backus in the second and Year Of Light and Gone To College in the third.
