List of Troubled Districts Fixed
State education officials have reduced the number of California school districts identified as needing improvement, saying that a computer programming error put 49 districts that met standards on the list.
The state last week named 184 school districts that could face state takeovers or other sanctions partly because they had failed to improve test scores enough under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
After re-crunching the numbers, 49 districts were removed and 15 were added.
The number of districts needing improvement is now 150, state officials said. They will face increased scrutiny within two years if they do not improve test scores or increase the number of students who take annual English and math exams.
