* Tommy Palica, Huntington Beach Edison: Struck out 10 and walked none in a five-inning three-hitter and the No. 10 Chargers beat Fountain Valley, 2-0, in the Sunset League.

* Riley Ward, Lake Forest El Toro: Drove in three runs as the Chargers upset Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley, the Times’ No. 3-ranked team, for a 5-1 victory in a South Coast League game at Capistrano Valley.

* Lori Gilbert, Santa Ana Foothill: Hit a two-run home run in the first inning of the Knights’ 2-0 victory over Anaheim Esperanza in the Anaheim Canyon/Michelle Carew tournament.

BOYS’ TENNIS

* Ryan Thacher, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake: Handed Palm Desert standout Cale Planck a 7-6 (5) loss -- his first defeat of the season -- and won his other two sets, 6-1, 6-2, as the Wolverines beat the Aztecs, 15-3.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

* Matt Rawson, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa: Had eight kills, four blocks and three aces for the Mustangs, ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division I coaches poll, in a 25-13, 25-22, 25-15 sweep of Clovis in an intersectional match.
