Vonage Holdings Corp., the largest U.S. Internet telephone service provider, was sued by the state of Connecticut, which accused the company of misrepresenting its ability to connect customers to 911 emergency dispatchers.

Edison, N.J.-based Vonage failed to properly disclose that 911 calls over its service may take longer, may not be routed to a live operator and are at higher risk of encountering a busy signal, Connecticut Atty. Gen. Richard Blumenthal alleged in the suit.

Connecticut’s lawsuit seeks unspecified financial penalties and improved disclosure of Vonage’s 911 connection capabilities.
