Diamondbacks End Giants’ Win Streak

Tony Clark hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks held on to beat San Francisco, 3-2, Tuesday night at Phoenix and stop the Giants’ six-game winning streak.

Matt Herges (1-1) relieved to start the eighth inning and gave up a leadoff single to Royce Clayton. Scott Eyre came in and gave up a single to Luis Gonzalez, who went three for four.

Troy Glaus popped up, and Shawn Green hit into a forceout that left runners on the corners. Clark, making his sixth start of the season, then singled to left to score Clayton.

Clark has 15 RBIs in 38 at-bats and is batting .342.

“This guy know how to prepare himself,” Gonzalez said. “He doesn’t play every day. It just seems like when he comes off the bench or when he’s in the starting lineup, he comes up with the big hit when we need it.”

San Diego 2, Colorado 1 -- Damian Jackson, brought back to the big leagues earlier in the day, hit an RBI double with two out in the eighth inning to give the Padres the win at San Diego.

Trevor Hoffman pitched a scoreless ninth for his 399th save.

Florida 11, Atlanta 6 -- Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Delgado had four RBIs apiece in a game matching the top two teams in the NL East at Atlanta.

The Marlins roughed up Atlanta starter Mike Hampton, who lost for only the second time in 16 decisions dating to July 4 of last season.

Philadelphia 10, New York 3 -- Pat Burrell hit a three-run homer off struggling Tom Glavine, and Bobby Abreu had four RBIs for the Phillies at New York. Brett Myers struck out 10 in seven innings for the Phillies, who put All-Star slugger Jim Thome and center fielder Kenny Lofton on the disabled list earlier in the day.

Milwaukee 4, Chicago 1 -- Carlos Lee broke a tie in the sixth inning with his second double of the game at Milwaukee to help the Brewers win their fifth consecutive game.

St. Louis 4, Cincinnati 2 -- Jason Marquis gave up only three hits while taking a shutout into the ninth inning at Cincinnati.

St. Louis has the NL’s best record at 17-8.

Pittsburgh 7, Houston 4 -- Craig Wilson had four hits, including a tiebreaking single in a three-run eighth inning at Houston.
