NHL is sent to the penalty box

Good, but unfortunate column on the National Hockey League [“A Life Gone to NHL,” April 28]. I’m a 10-year mini-plan holder to the Ducks or Kings and grew up on the East Coast craving hockey. Now these folks will have a tough time getting me back.

Try soccer. As a Major League Soccer season-ticket holder with the Galaxy, I get much of the same rush. In fact the games are very much alike, just much faster on the ice.

These ice heads did it to themselves. Greed beyond their resources to be greedy. It serves them right. I may never go back, although I’ll watch hockey on TV, if it gets back on TV.

We too have been Kings’ fans. This would have been our 30th year as season-seat holders. We have been true fans -- traveling to Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Edmonton and even Washington, D.C.

I think that the hockey world has shot itself in the foot. It will be a long time before people return to this sport, if it comes back as the NHL. The players were greedy, expecting salaries like other sports that have gigantic TV revenue. The owners were unrealistic about whether fans would return.

Thanks for reminding me of what fun it was -- 8,000 fans at the Forum and you could talk to the players after the game at the Forum Club.
