Braves Get Sweep With 16-0 Victory

Mike Hampton pitched a two-hitter and homered, and rookie Ryan Langerhans had six runs batted in for the Atlanta Braves, who completed a four-game sweep of Houston with a 16-0 win Sunday, the Astros’ 11th straight road loss.

Hampton (4-1) gave up a leadoff single to Mike Lamb in the second inning, but did not allow another baserunner until Adam Everett led off the ninth with a walk.

San Francisco 4, Washington 3 -- Omar Vizquel doubled home the winning run in the 13th inning for his third RBI of the game and the Giants ended a season-worst, four-game losing streak, at home.

San Francisco earned its third extra-inning victory in as many tries.

Colorado 8, Florida 3 -- Clint Barmes’ inside-the-park home run scored three runs, and Aaron Miles hit a grand slam to help the Rockies end a 10-game losing streak, in Miami.

Jeff Francis (2-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings for Colorado, which is 2-15 on the road.

The Rockies’ first win since April 23 came at the end of a three-city swing, allowing them to finish the trip 1-8.

Chicago 2, Philadelphia 1 -- Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez homered to back Carlos Zambrano’s five-hitter, and the Cubs ended a seven-game losing streak, at home.

Zambrano (3-1) struck out pinch-hitter Jose Offerman with a man on third with his 136th pitch to finish his fifth career complete game.

St. Louis 15, San Diego 5 -- Scott Rolen had four RBIs, and David Eckstein had two hits and an RBI in an 11-run first inning for the host Cardinals, who avoided a four-game sweep.

St. Louis had its fifth 11-run inning in 10 seasons. The team record is 12.

Milwaukee 5, New York 4 -- Rookie J.J. Hardy singled in Junior Spivey with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for the Brewers, who ended the Mets’ four-game winning streak.

Hardy hit a 1-0 pitch off Mike DeJean (0-1) past the dive of third baseman David Wright and into left field. Spivey scored, easily beating the off-line throw by Cliff Floyd.

Pittsburgh 16, Arizona 2 -- Matt Lawton hit his first grand slam in six years, helping the Pirates win for the fifth time in six games, at Arizona.

Lawton went three for five and had five RBIs for Pittsburgh, which scored 12 runs in the final two innings. The Pirates set season highs for runs and hits (17).
