He Has Good Track Record

Share

In three starts at Santa Anita and Turf Paradise, Indian Country is without a victory. The 4-year-old son of Indian Charlie has been third in each of his races at those two tracks.

The story is different at Hollywood Park. Indian Country has won three of four in Inglewood and will try for another victory in today’s seventh race, a $55,000 optional claimer at seven furlongs.

After finishing third in his career debut here on May 15, 2004, Indian Country has won three in a row over the track. He beat maidens by three lengths on June 3, won an allowance race on July 17, then scored again during the fall meet, winning by three lengths on Dec. 18.

Owned by breeders Hal and Patti Earnhardt and trained by Bob Baffert, Indian Country will break from the outside this afternoon in the field of six under jockey Garrett Gomez.

Baffert will also send out Danthebluegrassman, a 6-year-old Pioneering horse who is owned by Mike Pegram. Tyler Baze will ride the chestnut, who hasn’t won since taking an optional claimer at Churchill Downs on June 28, 2003.

The field is completed by Roi Charmant, Siphonizer, Wild Babe and Tobe Suave.

Race of the day: Asti will race on Lasix for the first time as she seeks her first U.S. win in today’s $60,000 Voodoo Dancer at Belmont Park. Jean Luc Samyn will ride the 4-year-old Sadler’s Wells filly for owner Joe Allen and trainer Allen Jerkens in the one-mile turf race. Eight others are scheduled to start -- Literacy, Humoristic, With Patience, Board Elligible, Brunilda, Broad Hopes, Pattiano and My Lordship.

One for the road: Westlake steps up after being claimed out of a victory against $32,000 maidens at Gulfstream Park and gets Rafael Bejarano in today’s eighth at Churchill Downs. The 3-year-old Honour And Glory filly was claimed by high percentage trainer Steve Margolis and her effort was flattered when the runner-up returned to score. She will be stretching out to a mile for the first time in the $50,000 claimer.

Exotically speaking: An early pick three using Quick Thinking in the first, Tangmalangaloo and Pachiro in the second and Smile N Wildcat, Happy And Hasty and Peter’s Posada in the third.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/38. Money: Previous day/meet total: $10.80/$203.40. Total money bet: $244.
