Domaine Makes U.S. Debut

Share

In her final two starts in Chile last summer, Domaine won a Group I race and finished second in a Group II.

Owned by Andrew Rosen, the 4-year-old daughter of Hussonet will make her U.S. debut for trainer Bobby Frankel in tonight’s seventh race at Hollywood Park. The race is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $76,890.

A winner by 7 1/2 lengths against maidens in her first start last May at Club Hippico in her native country, Domaine finished third in an allowance race, then won the Gran Premio Arturo Lyon Pena, a Group I, at 14-1 last June, beating 17 rivals in the process.

Then, a little over a month later, Domaine finished second in the Gran Premio Criadores and now the first-time Lasix user will see how she fits in this country. David Flores will ride.

Another contender in the $55,000 allowance at a mile on the turf is Flip Flop.

A winner of two of nine in France, the 4-year-old Zieten filly also will be treated with Lasix for the first time as she debuts for owner Gary Tanaka and trainer Ben Cecil.

Completing the field are Gypsy Dot, Madour, Bukat Timah, who will be coupled in the betting with Flip Flop, and Danclare.

Race of the day: Smoke Smoke Smoke, who won the Lost Code Breeders’ Cup at Hawthorne in his last start on April 9, heads a field of six in the $40,000 Shecky Greene Handicap, the opening day feature for Arlington Park’s 94-day spring-summer meet. Seth Martinez will ride the 3-year-old Smoke Glacken colt for Jer-Mar Stables LLC and trainer Hugh Robertson in the six-furlong race.

One for the road: Square Dancing adds Lasix for her first start since Oct. 7 and can fire fresh for trainer Carlos Martin in today’s fourth at Belmont Park. Norberto Arroyo Jr. will ride the 3-year-old Western Expression filly, who won her lone start over the Belmont Park turf course in her career debut Sept. 24, in the $44,000 allowance for New York bred fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles.

Exotically speaking: An early pick four using I’ll Prey For You in the first, Brooklime, Tommy’s Topper and Peaktopeak in the second, Bluesthestandard, Tiz Only Money and Majestic Commander in the third and Gilded Bertrando, Lord Albion and Och Tamale in the fourth.
