Clint Barmes hit two homers, had a career-high five runs batted in and made a leaping grab at shortstop, lifting the Colorado Rockies to an 18-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at Denver.

Barmes has been the surprise of what has been a mostly disappointing season for the Rockies, who had a season-high 19 hits, 11 for extra bases, and scored their most runs since getting 20 against Arizona on Sept. 23, 2003.

The rookie shortstop opened the season with a game-ending, two-run homer and hasn’t slowed, leading the majors with a .400 average and getting at least two hits in six of his last seven games.

Barmes went three for six, hitting a solo homer in the fourth inning, a three-run shot in the fifth and a run-scoring double in a nine-run seventh. He speared Tony Clark’s liner in the fifth, saving at least two runs for pitcher Jeff Francis (3-1).

New York 2, St. Louis 0 -- Tom Glavine ended a personal slump, giving up only four hits in seven-plus innings, and Cliff Floyd hit two long home runs as the Mets defeated the Cardinals at New York.

Glavine (2-4) had given up 19 runs and 29 hits in 14 innings over his last three starts. But against the team with the NL’s best record, he was masterful, retiring 12 straight at one point to earn his 264th victory.

Philadelphia 12, Cincinnati 2 -- Todd Pratt hit a three-run homer and tied a career high with five RBIs, and Brett Myers pitched seven strong innings to lift the Phillies at Philadelphia. The Phillies’ Bobby Abreu had his team-record streak of home runs in five straight games ended.

San Diego 3, Florida 2 -- Ramon Hernandez doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and the Padres beat Josh Beckett and the Marlins at San Diego for their 11th win in 14 games. Adam Eaton (5-1) won his third straight start.

San Francisco 4, Houston 2 -- Kirk Reuter threw seven strong innings and pinch-hitter Jason Ellison homered in the eighth at Houston to give Giant Manager Felipe Alou the 900th win of his career.

Milwaukee 4, Pittsburgh 3 -- Geoff Jenkins doubled in the decisive run on a two-strike, two-out pitch in the ninth from Pirate closer Jose Mesa at Pittsburgh, and the Brewers won for the 11th time in 14 games.

Chicago 6, Washington 3 -- Aramis Ramirez led off the eighth inning with a tiebreaking homer before two errors allowed the Cubs to tack on three unearned runs at Washington.
