Dave Matthews Band takes its turn at No. 1 with ‘Stand Up’
The Dave Matthews Band keeps the turnstile spinning at the top of the national album sales chart, as the group displaces Nine Inch Nails at No. 1 this week.
DMB’s “Stand Up” sold 465,000 copies its first week in stores, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That’s more than double the sales of second-place finisher Weezer, whose “Make Believe” notched the band’s highest first-week sales at 193,000.
DMB’s figure is lower than the 625,000 first-week sales posted three years ago by “Stand Up’s” predecessor, “Busted Stuff.” It’s the fifth time in as many weeks that a new album has claimed the chart’s top spot, after one-week reigns by Mariah Carey, Rob Thomas, Bruce Springsteen and Nine Inch Nails. New albums from Toby Keith and System of a Down, which went on sale Tuesday, are strong contenders to take over the top slot next week.
Country singer Dierks Bentley gets his first Top 10 pop chart debut with the No. 6 entry of “Modern Day Drifter,” which sold 75,000 copies.
