Boy, 13, to Be Tried in Slaying at Ballgame
A 13-year-old Palmdale youth accused of beating to death a 15-year-old boy with a baseball bat was ordered to stand trial for murder before a juvenile court judge.
An adjudication date of July 6 was set for the boy, who is not being identified because of his age. An adjudication is the equivalent of a trial but it will be heard before a judge instead of a jury.
The youth has pleaded not guilty to charges of killing Jeremy Rourke after a Pony League youth baseball game April 12. Under state law, he is too young to be tried as an adult.
