The Chicago White Sox, who have the best record in the majors, extended the contract of Manager Ozzie Guillen on Monday.

The White Sox picked up the 2006 option on Guillen’s contract, added two years and included an option for the 2009 season.

Guillen, 41, is the 37th manager in White Sox history and has a 116-96 record with the team. He is the second-youngest manager in the major leagues behind Cleveland’s Eric Wedge. Under Guillen last season, the White Sox finished 83-79. He is the first native Venezuelan to manage in the majors.

The Colorado Rockies called up reliever Matt Anderson from the minors, bringing the overall No. 1 pick of the 1997 draft back into the major leagues. The Rockies put reliever Jose Acevedo on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right groin.

Anderson was chosen first by the Detroit Tigers, and he later spent a season as their closer, earning 22 saves in 2001. But the next two years were plagued by injuries.
