Indonesia requested sentence reductions for 28 people convicted in the 2002 Bali bombings, including the alleged spiritual leader of the Jemaah Islamiah group, to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, officials said.

Indonesia traditionally cuts prison terms on holidays for inmates who exhibit good behavior. Those sentenced to death or life in prison are excluded.

Alleged Jemaah Islamiah chief Abu Bakar Bashir could get 30 days slashed from his jail time, on top of an earlier 4 1/2 -month reduction, and could be released in May.
