Vivaldi never sounded this sassy

Savion Glover isn’t the first tap virtuoso to explore classical music, but in “Classical Savion,” he works with a 10-piece chamber orchestra to ornament the scores of Western culture’s most revered Dead White Guys: Bach, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Bartok, etc. The New York Times caught his three-week, sold-out engagement last winter and judged it “a revelation for the eye and ear alike.” Glover himself sees the project as an experiment in what he calls “becoming the music.” In an interview in these pages earlier this year, he spoke of “trying to make tap more sound-friendly. I want it to be melodic and musical. I want people to enjoy the sound of tap.”
