Last well-rested developments

EVER been watching TV and had a sudden hankering for Taco Bell, Dunkin’ Donuts or perhaps a slab of Velveeta? As a pitchman, actor Tony Hale is the man behind those yearnings, and he’s even helped suggest how to settle your stomach later with his spots for Pepto-Bismol.

But for the last three seasons, Hale, who lives in L.A. with wife Martel, has made his mark on the Emmy-winning sitcom “Arrested Development,” airing Mondays on Fox. His work as neurotic momma’s boy Buster Bluth has opened the doors to coming features such as “Stranger Than Fiction” with Will Ferrell and “R.V.” with Robin Williams. But the biggest project arrives in March -- the Hales’ first child. They’d better enjoy a few carefree weekends while they can.

ArcLight night

On Friday nights we like to see a movie at the ArcLight, which has the most comfortable seats. They’ve also got a restaurant where we can grab a bite to eat, and they even have a bar. I had a glass of wine when we saw “Sideways” there, so it was sort of a theme night. If we’re cutting it too close to eat beforehand -- I’m really neurotic about getting there on time -- then we’ll go to In-N-Out after the movie. We only moved here 2 1/2 years ago from New York, so I’m all about In-N-Out. I like the fact that they don’t have a lot of choices, but what they do have they do really well. I was the same way with Chick-Fil-A, which was the best fast-food place in the South, where I was raised. I loved the sweet tea and waffle fries.

Always watching

On Saturday morning we’ll wake up and find the closest farmers market, where we’ll eat, walk around and people-watch, and then buy some fresh stuff for the week. People-watching is our ultimate pastime.

We just bought a house in Los Feliz, so now we’re always walking around on the lookout for new design shops. One of our favorites is Silho Furniture on La Brea, where they have stuff that’s described as “comfortable modern.” Then we’ll go home and take a nap, which is a staple in the Hale household.

We’ll be all rested up for Saturday evening game night. One of our friends, Allen Wolf, designs board games, so we’ll pull together some people so we can try out his newest creations. We end up having a blast and then he makes a few tweaks to it and puts it out.

Ready for dessert

On Sunday morning we’ll go to church and then over to the Alcove Cafe & Bakery. I really like the chicken salad, the goat cheese salad and the paninis. We’ll go to Griffith Park, which we discovered only recently, so we’re still scouting locations there for kids’ stuff. When we lived in New York we were in Harlem near Central Park, so it’s great to be out here and still have this huge, glorious park so close to us. We like to ride our bikes all around and then maybe drive back to the Alcove and get one of their ridiculously delicious desserts. You look in the window and it drives you crazy. I like the tuxedo cake, which has incredibly creamy white icing that balances out a rich chocolate filling.

Then we’ll head back home and grab something to eat as we watch the TiVoed “Saturday Night Live” from the night before. Now that’s bliss.
