Ali’s fight not unlike the one faced by Rosa Parks

Re “Shaking the Pillars of Islam,”

Dutch lawmaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali is in for a long fight. By standing up to radical Islam, she is showing the Western world the dark side of religious theocracies of the Middle East. It is a fact that men rule in the Islamic world and women must comply, or else. Ali has taken off the collar of obedience and is now the target of Muslim revenge and secular indifference.

She knows better than anyone the difficulty of fighting the intolerance of her own faith, having suffered genital mutilation and having been beaten when she questioned her faith.

In no uncertain terms, she is a hero. She reminds me of another woman who took a stand to fight injustice: Rosa Parks. I hope the world will hear this woman in the Netherlands as we did Parks.
