A construction crew working Monday near an elementary school spotted a mountain lion near the campus, prompting the Sheriff’s Department to guard the students while their parents picked them up, department spokesman Jim Amormino said.
The animal was spotted around 1 p.m. about 60 yards from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in the 100 block of La Esperanza, Amormino said.
State animal control officials armed with tranquilizer guns were searching for the lion late Monday.
