Man Walking on Freeway Is Struck, Killed
A man was struck by a car and killed late Friday while walking in the southbound lanes of the Long Beach Freeway near the Imperial Highway exit, authorities said.
The 40-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 9:18 p.m. incident, said Officer Alex Gonzalez, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
CHP investigators were unsure why the man was walking on the freeway, Gonzalez said.
No one else was hurt.
The incident forced officers to close all southbound lanes of the freeway for more than two hours, Gonzalez said.
