From Times Wire Reports

Five men used picks and shovels in freezing temperatures to free a dog that had been trapped for several days in a 12-inch-wide pipe at an abandoned mine near Premier.

The Plott hound, named Charlie, appeared to be healthy, said Cathy Patton, a spokeswoman for the McDowell County Commission.

“He’s so frisky. I sat down to take a picture of him, and he just walked over and kissed me,” Patton said.
