Doctor to Check Flinn

King forward Ryan Flinn will be reevaluated today by team doctor Michael Mellman after suffering a concussion during Saturday’s game against Chicago at Staples Center.

Flinn was hurt when his head hit the ice at the end of a fight with the Blackhawks’ Jim Vandermeer during the first period.

Flinn was immobilized and placed on a backboard by emergency medical technicians before being removed from the ice.

He was released from County-USC Medical Center late Saturday and returned to the Kings’ training facility Sunday, but he didn’t skate.

A report from back specialists who examined Valeri Bure in Florida last Tuesday revealed nothing different from the original diagnosis. The Kings have said Bure has a protruding disk in his back.

Bure, who has not played or practiced since training camp, will continue with the same treatments, but there is no timetable for his return. Coach Andy Murray said that Bure could still play this season.

“There are 60 games left,” Murray said. “Even if it goes another 30 games, that still leaves a lot of the season for him to play.”

While King left wing Luc Robitaille was playing a game in Nashville on Thanksgiving Day, his wife Stacia was host at their Heber, Utah, home to a dinner for 25 to 30 people that included four families displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

The four families had lived for a time at the Robitailles’ home before choosing to be relocated to apartments in Heber.

Donations to help with those relocation efforts can be made online at shelterforserenity.org.

The Kings will collect toys and canned foods before the next three home games at Staples Center, starting tonight when they play Detroit.

Fans are asked to donate a new unwrapped toy or nonperishable goods, which will be delivered by King players during their annual holiday hospital visit.

Proceeds from the toy collection will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles among other local charities.
