Lennon gathering: instant karma

Share

What would have been John Lennon’s 65th birthday on Oct. 9 will be celebrated in Los Angeles with several events.

The morning edition of the long-running “Breakfast With the Beatles” on KLSX-FM (97.1) will be dedicated to Lennon’s music with the group and his solo recordings, the emphasis “leaning toward the solo material, since that’s a little more all-John,” says show host Chris Carter.

After his three-hour show ends at 10 a.m., Carter will head to Capitol Records in Hollywood to participate in a birthday gathering at 2 p.m. outside the label’s offices, where fans annually gather, sing songs, read Lennon’s poetry and carve up a birthday cake in his honor.

Lennon also will be featured at an Oct. 12 film screening at the Silent Movie Theatre in L.A., sponsored by “Breakfast With the Beatles” and hosted by Carter. The screening will include videos, films and TV appearances under the umbrella “The Beatles Solo in the ‘70s,” with proceeds going to the Red Cross to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
