Sounding out a master

IT was a marvelous idea for Cameron Crowe to write about the magic that happens when the perfect song is paired with a scene in a film [“Moviemaking, From the Soundtrack Up,” Sept. 25]. By poignantly and thoroughly sharing what a labor of love this endeavor is, he has encouraged his readers to more fully appreciate those rare movie moments when song and story simply would not be the same without each other.

I can’t think of a director whose opinion I would rather hear on this subject than the man who put Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour” over Penny Lane’s drug overdose in “Almost Famous.” Few scenes on film have captured true love better.
