The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Roberto C. Baez, 19, of Tampa, Fla.; private first class, Army. Baez was among three paratroopers killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Haqlaniya, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Andrew D. Bedard, 19, of Missoula, Mont.; private first class, Marine Corps. Bedard was killed Tuesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near him in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Sean B. Berry, 26, of Mansfield, Texas; sergeant, Army National Guard. Berry died of noncombat-related injuries Monday in Taqaddum, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 112th Armor, 56th Brigade Combat Team, Army National Guard in Fort Worth.

Shayne M. Cabino, 19, of Canton, Mass.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Cabino was among four Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near them near Karmah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Nicholas O. Cherava, 21, of Ontonagon, Mich., corporal, Marine Corps. Cherava was among four Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near them near Karmah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

John G. Doles, 29, of Claremore, Okla.; staff sergeant, Army. Doles was killed Sept. 30 when his unit was attacked with rocket- propelled grenades and small-arms fire in the Shah Wali Kot district of southern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment in Vicenza, Italy.

Jason L. Frye, 19, of Landisburg, Pa.; private first class, Marine Corps. Frye was among four Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near them near Karmah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Brian K. Joplin, 32, of Hugo, Okla.; petty officer second class, Navy. Joplin was killed Tuesday when he fell out of a Navy helicopter during a regularly scheduled training mission in the Persian Gulf. He was assigned to Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 15 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Patrick B. Kenny, 20, of Pittsburgh; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Kenny was among four Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near them near Karmah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Joshua J. Kynoch, 23, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; specialist, Army. Kynoch was killed Oct. 1 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Bradley fighting vehicle during convoy operations in Bayji, Iraq, south of Mosul. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Bryan W. Large, 31, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; sergeant, Army. Large was among three paratroopers killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Haqlaniya, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Daniel M. McVicker, 20, of Alliance, Ohio; lance corporal, Marine Corps. McVicker was one of two Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near them in Qaim, Iraq, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to Combat Service Support Detachment 21, 2nd Force Service Support Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force in Cherry Point, N.C. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Larry W. Pankey Jr., 34, of Morrison, Colo.; sergeant, Army Reserve. Pankey died Monday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., of noncombat-related injuries suffered Sept. 23 in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 467th Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve in Greenwood, Miss.

Carl L. Raines II, 20, of Coffee, Ala.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Raines was one of two Marines killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near them in Qaim, Iraq, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to Combat Service Support Detachment 21, 2nd Force Service Support Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Cherry Point, N.C. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Jeremiah W. Robinson, 20, of Mesa, Ariz.; specialist, Army National Guard. Robinson died Thursday in Baghdad of injuries suffered there a day earlier when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during convoy operations. He was assigned to the 860th Military Police Company, Army National Guard in Phoenix.

Jens E. Schelbert, 31, of New Orleans; staff sergeant, Army. Schelbert was killed Oct. 1 when his forward operating base was attacked by enemy forces using indirect fire in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

John R. Stalvey, 22, of Conroe, Texas; corporal, Marine Corps. Stalvey was killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near him during Operation Iron Fist along the Euphrates River in Karabilah, Iraq, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

James J. Stoddard Jr., 29, of Crofton, Md.; sergeant first class, Army. Stoddard was killed Sept. 30 when his Humvee rolled over into a ditch near Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Jacob T. Vanderbosch, 21, of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; specialist, Army. Vanderbosch was among three paratroopers killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Haqlaniya, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Marshall A. Westbrook, 43, of Farmington, N.M.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Westbrook was killed Oct. 1 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 126th Military Police Company, Army National Guard in Albuquerque.
