Nickelback makes the ‘Right’ move

IT was in with the new on the U.S. pop album chart this week as five titles made their debuts in the Top 10, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Nickelback, the Canadian rock quintet that has enjoyed strong radio success with its cross-format accessibility, takes the top spot with “All the Right Reasons,” its fifth album. The 11-track CD sold 325,000 copies in its first week in stores and is being buoyed by the hit single “Photograph.”

Chicago rapper Twista takes No. 2 with his “The Day After,” which with 129,000 copies sold in its first week edged by one chart spot “Real Fine Place,” the new CD by country songstress Sara Evans, which sold 126,000 copies.

Mercurial singer Fiona Apple’s “Extraordinary Machine” and Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand’s “You Could Have It So Much Better” debuted at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.

Last week’s No. 1 title, “All Jacked Up” by honky-tonk angel Gretchen Wilson, fell in its second week to No. 4. The remaining Top 10 titles are from Sheryl Crow (No. 5), Kanye West (No. 6), Black Eyed Peas (No. 9) and Faith Hill (No. 10).

Other new releases making their mark this week include CDs from hip-hop diva Trina (No. 11), gospel man Kirk Franklin (No. 13), veteran singer Melissa Etheridge (No. 14), rocker Shinedown (No. 23) and country star Chris Cagle (No. 25).
