Two Stand Out in Seventh

Share

Nine fillies and mares are entered in today’s seventh race at Santa Anita and none has ever won on the local turf course. Scheduled to go about 6 1/2 furlongs in the $42,000 allowance, they are a combined 0-for-10 over the course.

Obviously, that will change today in the second-to-last race of the pick six and the strongest-looking contenders are Tempting Date and Strut Your Stuff.

Owned by Adam and Paul Lewis and trained by Jeff Mullins, Tempting Date has won on grass, at five furlongs on Sept. 7 at Del Mar. A winner of two of three lifetime, the 3-year-old Perfect Mandate filly will be ridden by Victor Espinoza.

Bred in California by E.W. and Judy Johnston and trained by Don Warren, Strut Your Stuff will be making her first start since finishing second to Mini Skirt on the Hollywood Park main track on May 18. In two previous races on the Santa Anita hillside, she has been second, losing by a head and half a length. Tyler Baze has the mount.

Race of the day: Diligent Prospect will make his first start outside California when he breaks from the outside post in today’s $200,000 Perryville at Keeneland. Jon Court will be in Kentucky to ride the 3-year-old Diligence colt for trainer Doug O’Neill in the Grade III at seven furlongs. Diligent Prospect has won three of four.

One for the road: Attack Force makes his second start after a layoff for trainer Dennis Patterson and can spring a mild upset in tonight’s second at Bay Meadows. Chad Schvaneveldt will ride the 5-year-old Patton gelding for Car-Den Racing Stable in the $36,000 optional claimer at one mile.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Charmo in the fifth, Free Rent, Naughty Laura and Potion in the sixth, Strut Your Stuff, Tempting Date, Lady’s Champagne and Dominique’s Darling in the seventh.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/38. Money: Previous day/meet total: $11.80/$207.40. Total money bet: $224.
