* Southern California Edison Co., the Rosemead-based utility that averted bankruptcy protection in 2001 after California’s energy crisis, named John R. Fielder as president. Fielder, 60, replaces Robert G. Foster, who left his position Sept. 30. Foster said he might run for an elected office.

* Glendale-based Nestle USA said Brad Alford would take over as chairman and chief executive on Jan. 1. Alford will succeed Joe Weller, who is retiring after 37 years with Nestle, the last 11 years as chairman and CEO. Alford is currently president and CEO of Nestle Brands Co., an operating unit of Nestle USA.

* Enron Corp. won a judge’s approval of a $1.5-billion settlement of claims that the company drove up prices during California’s energy crisis.

* Commercial Capital Bancorp Inc., an Irvine-based banking group that’s expanding in Northern California, agreed to acquire Calnet Business Bank of Sacramento for about $40 million in stock.

* PG&E; Corp., owner of California’s largest utility, hired former investment banker Rand Rosenberg to evaluate potential acquisitions and develop a long-term plan.
