Valid’s Valid Tries for Validation

Share

The last time Valid’s Valid ran on the main track at Santa Anita was memorable for those who had bet on the 3-year-old filly.

Making her third start for a partnership and trainer Jesus Mendoza, the daughter of Valid Wager beat maidens by three lengths at nearly 39-1.

This afternoon, Valid’s Valid will make her first start on the Arcadia dirt since when she faces seven others in the seventh, a $42,000 allowance at seven furlongs.

In five races since that shocker, Valid’s Valid, who was bred in California by H&E; Ranch, has one win in five starts. She won a state bred allowance by 1 3/4 lengths when 6-1 on June 19 at Hollywood Park.

Kent Desormeaux will ride Valid’s Valid today, making him the seventh rider she has had in eight races. Jose Alferez, Garrett Gomez, David Cohen, Alex Solis, Victor Espinoza and David Flores were the others.

In terms of wins, Nossa Cancao is the most accomplished member of the field. She has seven victories in 28 starts, but she hasn’t come close in four starts in this country for trainer A.C. Avila.

Race of the day: Asi Siempre will try for her second win of the Keeneland meet as she steps into a Grade III in today’s $125,000 Valley View Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Gary Stevens will ride the 3-year-old El Prado filly as she faces 10 opponents. The most likely candidates for an upset are Victory Lap, Sunny Disposition and Dynamite Lass.

One for the road: Cool Springs Saint debuts for trainer Bruce Levine after being claimed for $40,000 on June 25 and shows up in a much tougher spot (a $75,000 optional claimer) in today’s sixth at Belmont Park. Levine, who is winning at a 30% clip in 2005, gets jockey John Velasquez to ride for Two Kings Stable in the one-mile race.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using My Little Monkey in the first, Salah Who and High Z in the second and Blackjack Gambler, American Memories, Some Bold Thrill, Smoke Dreams and Chief Storm Cloud in the third.
