Poor marks for coverage of L.A. schools

A big high-five to Sandra Tsing Loh for her words about L.A. public schools (Current, Oct. 23).
I am a teacher at one of those “bad” public schools who is fed up with negative press. It hurts the students’ feelings, and it’s bad for public education. Thanks to the Times in Education program, my students have the paper to read at their desks every day. Shouldn’t they open up to something positive about them and their hard work?
When a Times education writer knocked on my classroom door a few years ago for a story, I told him he was not allowed to enter my classroom unless he had something positive to say about our work at Fremont. My students shouted, “You go, Ms. Allen!”
Jose is at UC Davis, Gladis is at UC Santa Barbara, Sandra is at UCLA, Tonce is at Xavier and Reggie is at the University of Michigan. You go, Fremont!
