California’s beauty graces Highway 49

I really enjoyed Eric Bailey’s article about Truckee [“A Bit of Aspen in California’s Sierra,” Western Travel, Oct. 9] and wish you would do more about Northern California.
May I suggest that you take a trip up California Highway 49 sometime to see some of the most beautiful country in the world (and I’ve seen a lot of the world)?
A few points of interest are Downieville, which boasts a population of about 500 and has a wonderful restaurant called the Grubstake and some very old buildings from the Gold Rush.
We also have some beautiful hotels right on the Yuba River. The views are spectacular.
