A Long Beach man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony hit-and-run in the death of a 28-year-old military man from Florida who was struck while fixing a flat tire on the San Diego Freeway.

Donal Wright, 37, was arrested about 4:45 a.m., California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Katrina Lindgren said. The name of the serviceman was not released pending notification of relatives, and his branch of service was not immediately known, Lindgren said.

The man was hit about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday as he worked on the left side of his car, Lindgren said.

Wright, who is believed to have been driving under the influence of drugs, was arrested after calling a relative and saying he may have hit someone on the freeway. The relative notified authorities, Lindgren said.
