Will the Third Season Be Charm for Dorrell?

Share

Why should Karl Dorrell be judged by a different standard than his contemporaries? In his third season at USC, Pete Carroll won a national championship. In his third season at Cal, Jeff Tedford had the Bears in the top 10 and in contention for a BCS bowl, finishing 10-2. In his second season Tedford beat the aforementioned USC team. And Tedford inherited a team with a 1-10 record.

Why should we expect and accept less from Dorrell? Both Carroll and Tedford proved it could be done. In fact, Red Sanders and Tommy Prothro each turned UCLA’s football program around in his first year.

If Dorrell fails to match Tedford’s third-year record, he and Dan Guerrero should be canned. The only reason they both have jobs is because the chancellor is completely clueless about sports. If Tedford can do it, then so should Dorrell.
