Don’t Blame Airline Employees

Share

Regarding “Northwest, Delta Enter Chapter 11,” Sept. 15:

The airline industry was shielded from any liability resulting from the tragedy that took place on Sept. 11, 2001.

The federal government has provided millions of dollars to the families of those killed on that day in return for them giving up their right to sue the airlines involved. Soon after, the airlines were given a $15-billion bailout to help them along, as they were having financial problems prior to that catastrophic event.

Given these facts, how are the regular employees responsible for the airline industry’s current financial problems and why should they bear the brunt of the consequences?

When I look at the prices the airlines charge to fly someone from one point to another in this country, I shake my head in wonderment. How do they afford it? They can’t.

The airlines need to charge the rate they need to in order to make a profit. They need to create value. Not everyone wants to be relegated to riding a bus in the air.
