Dallas got its first score in the 34th minute on a Galaxy own goal. On the play, Galaxy defender Troy Roberts passed to goalkeeper Kevin Hartman who had the ball roll over his foot and into the net.

Mina’s first goal also was aided by the Galaxy. Mina had cut around Tyrone Marshall on the left side of the penalty area and shot. Hartman was leaning right but the ball glanced off defender Pablo Chinchilla and went in the left side of the goal.

“It’s tough when you give up a silly goal like that -- it slices your sprits up,” Galaxy midfielder Pete Vagenas said of the first goal. “The second goal was just as bad, and there’s an old saying, ‘defense wins championships’ and there’s a big question mark there.”

Mina’s second goal was unassisted but followed a nice play by Ramon Nunez. He raced down the right flank with the ball, cutting into the box and took a shot that Hartman saved. But the rebound went right to a charging Mina, who tapped it in.

Dallas goalkeeper Scott Garlick made five saves and lost a shutout in the 86th minute when defender Bobby Rhine accidentally headed a cross from Marshall into the net for an own goal.

Dallas scored its last goal in injury time when Abe Thompson, who replaced Mina in the 84th minute, maneuvered around Marshall before slipping a shot past Hartman.
