Officials shut down a United Airlines terminal at Los Angeles International Airport for about 90 minutes Saturday evening because of concerns about an employee’s identification, delaying at least eight flights and locking hundreds of passengers in the terminal.

Transportation Security Administration officials said an airport employee walked through a screening area and did not stop when a security official asked for a closer look at his identification.

Security officials locked the terminal about 8:20 p.m., refusing to allow passengers to board flights or leave the terminal while they searched for the employee.

The terminal reopened about 9:45 p.m. after the employee was found and his identification verified.

Four United Airlines and four United Express flights were delayed during the search, said airport spokesman Harold Johnson.

TSA spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said the agency decided to close the terminal “out of an abundance of caution.”
