Eminem’s wife airs marital problems

Eminem’s marital problems have gone public. One day after the rapper filed divorce papers, his estranged wife called a Detroit-area radio station, saying she doesn’t want their marriage to end. They had remarried in January after previously being wed from 1999 to 2001.

“He’s having problems with, you know, his problem that he had,” Kim Mathers said Thursday, an apparent reference to the sleep-medication dependency for which Eminem was hospitalized last summer. “I was hoping we could get counseling and work it out, you know?”

Through his publicist, the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, issued a statement saying “her allegations regarding my status post-rehab are both untrue and unfortunate.” He defended the decision to seek divorce, saying, “We both tried to give our marriage another chance and quickly realized that a wedding doesn’t fix the underlying problems.”
