Less than honest about tax hikes

Re “Candidates Silent on State’s Cash Crunch,” April 1

It’s very clear that none of California’s potential governors wish to instill bad feelings about the state, so they promise the world but fail to reveal the necessary evils needed to accomplish the good. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Controller Steve Westly tell citizens that all will be provided for with no precise outline of the means they will use to put their words into action. And though Treasurer Phil Angelides says he will give money back to schools, he fails to announce that this will be done through raising taxes.

Just say it: It’s going to cost Californians money to get the state where it should be, and schools are dependent on state funding, which Angelides should cast light on. At least he has a plan, and if the tax increase leaves you wanting Schwarzenegger back, move to another state.
