Boone and Westbrook Pace the Indians, 3-2

Aaron Boone and Jake Westbrook are off to much better starts than a year ago -- and so are the Cleveland Indians.

Boone had a two-run double and Westbrook outpitched Minnesota ace Johan Santana to lead the Indians to their fifth straight victory, 3-2, over the Twins on Sunday at Cleveland.

“You might say I’m having a bit more fun this April,” cracked Boone, batting .344 through six games after starting last season nine for 73 (.123).

Eduardo Perez homered as Cleveland improved to 5-1 for its best start since opening 2002 at 11-1. The Indians have not had a winning April since, including a 9-14 record last year.

Westbrook (2-0) gave up two hits and one run over 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander didn’t earn his second win in 2005 until May 29 after opening 1-9.

Oakland 6, Seattle 4 -- Rich Harden took a three-hit shutout into the eighth inning at Seattle.

Harden (1-0) struck out eight in seven-plus innings. In his last four games against Seattle, he is 4-0 and has given up one run in 21 innings.

Boston 4, Baltimore 1 -- Tim Wakefield pitched six innings without giving up an earned run, leading the Red Sox to a three-game sweep at Baltimore.

Tampa Bay 5, Toronto 2 -- Scott Kazmir came within an out of the first complete game of his career, outpitching Roy Halladay at Toronto.

Kazmir (1-1) gave up 10 hits, struck out five and walked one. After getting the first two outs of the ninth, he gave up singles to Russ Adams and Reed Johnson. Tampa Bay then brought in Dan Miceli, who needed only three pitches to end the game.

Texas 5, Detroit 3 -- Texas’ Brad Wilkerson ended a stretch of six strikeouts in seven at-bats with a tiebreaking, two-run double off the wall in right-center field at Arlington, Texas.
