Pole-sitter Van Knill led wire to wire to win the super late models race Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway, the division’s third winner in its three races this year.

Chris Johnson, the winner a week ago, finished second, 1.09 seconds behind Knill in the 50-lap race on the half-mile track. Knill posted the fastest qualifying time, and got the pole for winning the eight-lap trophy dash. Knill finished second in the season opener March 25 and fifth last Saturday.

Tim Huddleston drove his backup car to victory in the first late models feature race of 2006 after three rainouts. Huddleston, the division’s 2005 champion, started second, passed pole-sitter Mike Johnson on the 11th lap and led for the remainder of the 40-lap race on the half-mile track.
