Why the Letters Page Should Sing Like Poetry

West’s Letters practice caused me confusion: “Our readers’ comments must have inclusion of a daytime phone number and address (which published ones exclude nevertheless).”

“Any topic, it’s your right to say it. And it matters not how you convey it. Although going postal makes us nervous, you may e-mail/fax/use Postal Service.”

That said, the one thing that I just don’t get is why some say “Via the Internet.” I thought to myself, “Oh, what a pity. Don’t computer users have a city?”

If a Van Nuys missive (that’s suburban) and an L.A. rant (of course, that’s urban), then why not, I ask as one who exacts Canadian views “Via Halifax”?

I’ll give my name so friends know I said it (if this earns no cash, I must take credit): Elyse Verse. (Not Verse. It’s pronounced Ver-SAY. It rhymes with, and I live in, West L.A.)

So there you have it, my dear editors. Pay me some mind, if not my creditors. Please let me know why such disparity. (Don’t edit for length; give me clarity!)
