Talking trash
Re “155% Hike in Garbage Fee Urged,” April 13
It is wrong to say that the cost of trash collection is a free service subsidized by the city of Los Angeles. We homeowners pay property taxes, which go into the general fund that pays for many services, including trash collection, that the city provides. This proposed fee is really a new police protection tax that should be voted on by the citizens of Los Angeles. If more money is needed by the city, it should not call it a trash collection fee. This is a tax increase that should be on the ballot.
