As of Friday, the Department of Defense reported a total of 2,656 American military deaths as a result of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The department last week identified the following military personnel killed in Iraq:

Derrick J. Cothran, 21, of Avondale, La.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Cothran was among four Marines killed April 15 when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Clinton W. Cubert, 38, of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; master sergeant, Army National Guard. Cubert died April 16 at the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Ky., of injuries suffered Sept. 11 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Samarra, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2113th Transportation Company, Army National Guard in Paducah, Ky.

Pablo V. Mayorga, 33, of Margate, Fla.; corporal, Marine Corps. Mayorga was among four Marines killed April 15 when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Mark W. Melcher, 34, of Pittsburgh; specialist, Army National Guard. Melcher was killed April 15 when his Abrams tank was attacked with small-arms fire in Taqaddum, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 103rd Armor Division, Army National Guard in Friedens, Pa.

Marcques J. Nettles, 22, of Beaverton, Ore.; petty officer third class, Navy. Nettles was killed April 2 when his truck overturned in a flash flood near Al Asad, west of Baghdad. His body was recovered April 16. He was assigned to Force Service Regiment 1, Fleet Marine Forces Pacific, and operationally attached to the 1st Combat Logistics Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Darin T. Settle, 23, of Henley, Mo.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Settle was killed April 14 in a nonhostile vehicle accident in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Robert J. Settle, 25, of Owensboro, Ky.; private first class, Army. Settle was killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Taji, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Justin D. Sims, 22, of Covington, Ky.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Sims was among four Marines killed April 15 when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Patrick A. Tinnell, 25, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; private first class, Army. Tinnell was killed Wednesday when a car bomb exploded near him while on foot patrol in Siniya, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Ian P. Weikel, 31, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; captain, Army. Weikel was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Balad, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Ryan G. Winslow, 19, of Jefferson, Ala.; private first class, Marine Corps. Winslow was among four Marines killed April 15 when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
