One person was killed and three others wounded in a shooting in a Costa Mesa alley Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The incident occurred in the 1300 block of West Baker Street, between Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Road, said Lt. Loren Wyrick of the Costa Mesa Police Department. Investigators believe that the shooting of the four Latino men in their 20s may have been gang-related, Wyrick said.

The fatally wounded man, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives, died at the scene. The three wounded men were taken to hospitals. Two suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and were in serious condition; the third had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper leg, Wyrick said.

Homicide and gang investigators continued to comb the scene -- a residential area made up of three-plex and four-plex apartments -- into the evening.

“It’s not a bad neighborhood,” Wyrick said. “We’re just really looking for anybody with information. We’ve talked to a lot of witnesses already. We hope we can solve this one and prevent the next one.”

Witnesses told police that the suspect -- described as a white male in his 20s with a shaved head, mustache and goatee -- fled in a newer silver Chevrolet Impala, Wyrick said. It was unknown if there were additional people in the car.
