“The National Pastime in Black and White, the Negro Baseball Leagues”: The exhibit tells a story of America’s racial divide through the first half of the 20th century, viewed through the prism of organized sports. The show’s 60 photographs and selection of artifacts document black athletes who were good enough, but were prevented from playing in then-segregated Major League Baseball. The social aspects of the Negro leagues from 1867 to 1955 are examined along with the roles of teams and players in their communities, the importance of weekly black newspapers, and barnstorming.
