Imagen Awards honor Latinos

Top honors at the 21st annual Imagen Awards, which recognize positive portrayals of Latinos, went Friday to “The Lost City” as best picture, Antonio Banderas as best actor for “Take the Lead” and America Ferrera as best actress for “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.”

“The Lost City” was honored a second time with an award to Andy Garcia as best director.

NBC’s “The West Wing,” with a story line that featured a character played by Jimmy Smits being elected U.S. president, won for best prime-time TV series. In other television categories, Michael Pena won for best actor in HBO’s “Walkout,” and Lisa Vidal was named best actress for Lifetime’s “Odd Girl Out.”
