An Alaska Airlines jet was evacuated shortly after landing at Long Beach Airport at 6 p.m. Sunday after it became filled with smoke, an airline spokeswoman said

“It was a significant amount of smoke into the cabin, to the point that the crew decided they wanted to immediately evacuate the passengers through the slide,” said spokeswoman Caroline Boren.

Three of the 140 passengers on the flight from Seattle and one flight attendant requested assistance from paramedics for injuries that Boren said apparently were suffered during the evacuation of the MD-80 aircraft. One of the passengers requested further treatment at a hospital.
